We started a new science unit, PLANTS AND ANIMALS. Our first activity was planting a mini lawn. We're tracking days to germination and will be measuring growth. The lawns were planted in clear containers so the roots would be visible. We'll be noting the effect weeds have on our lawns and comparing the root structure of weeds with those of the grass. When the lawn grows tall enough, we'll mow the grass and watch how long it takes to grow back.
We learned that plants need 4 things to survive. Tomorrow we'll be "showing what we know" using the Popplet App to make diagrams of this.
We spent time in our outdoor science classroom today. Thanks to an LEF grant, second grade has gardening tools, rakes, hoes and an outdoor bin to store them in!
