Making a change

CITIZENSHIP

We use coins and bills in math quite often. Today we used them in social studies. We identified all the famous figures on our currency. We had a great discussion. Some key ideas and questions that came up were...

Who are these people?

How come some of them get to be on both a coin and a bill?

How do you get to be on money?

Do you have to be dead?

I guess you have to be a brave man.

Oh yeah, they're all men.

We're joining the national campaign to vote for a historic American Heroine to replace Andrew Jackson on the 20 dollar bill.

Tomorrow we'll continue our research into the four final candidates so we'll be fully educated before we vote.

Who would you vote for?

Eleanor Roosevelt, Rosa Parks, Harriet Tubman, and Wilma Mankiller.
